The Three Streams of the Firehouse Church

 

The Firehouse Church in Bremerton WA is a church plant that comes from three streams.  The first stream is a passion to help people connect with God through Jesus Christ.  We truly believe Jesus is alive, and He holds our purpose and destiny for this world and the next.  Our experience of following Jesus for over thirty years has been one of love and adventure.  We love Him more now then when we first came to know Him.  We know He loves all people and longs for them to come to know Him.  A church plant is a great way to introduce people to Jesus.  New churches don’t come with cliques and long term members.  Everyone is new; everyone is on the same page.  It is a non-threatening way to come to know Jesus.  At the Firehouse Church all questions are welcome.  We are not offended by skepticism and questioning.  We don’t have all the answers but we will love you and do our best to show you what following Jesus means in this world and what it means for the next.

The second stream is a desire to see the Pacific Northwest come alive to God in Christ.  We love the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.  After almost fifty years in Sunny California, we felt God wanted us in the Puget Sound Region.  We truly believe the church of Jesus is going to be revived in this region and many people will come to know Christ and this will have a world impact.  We believe it is already happening in many churches in this region and we want to be among them.  We don’t think we are God’s unique agents in the region, but we want to come alongside other churches and ministries that are making Christ known in the Pacific Northwest and help in fulfilling Jesus’ commission to make disciples of all nations.  We love living here and look for a long tenure in the area planting churches.

The third stream is the power of God through the Holy Spirit.  As we read the gospels and the book of Acts in the New Testament we see the miraculous as normal for Jesus and the early Christian community.  Preaching the gospel and teaching were joined with healing and deliverance.  The Western church has to some degree lost it‘s faith and nerve in the supernatural ministry of Jesus working through ordinary Christians.  This is not all churches of course, but many Christians don’t know they can be agents of God’s miracle power.  We believe they can and are supposed to.  We want to help restore people’s faith in God to operate in the miraculous power available to all followers of Christ.  The same Holy Spirit who anointed Jesus and filled the disciples is the one who anoints and fills Jesus followers today.  He hasn’t changed.  In many cases we have been taught God doesn’t do that anymore, or to be passive and say God can if He wants to.  We believe God wants to work miracles but He is looking for people who will risk, believe, grow through failure, and persevere until they see more and more of the  “goodness of the Lord in the land of the living” (Psalm 27:13)  Jesus taught us to pray for God’s will to be done on earth as in heaven.  We believe it is time for the church to become the agent through which heaven invades earth and Jesus’ prayer is answered.

As for the name The Firehouse Church,  fire is an image used in the Bible often for judgment, but it is also used to refer to the purifying work of the Holy Spirit, the power of God, and a passionate heart.  We are all about walking in purity of belief and life, we love His power, and we passionately love Him and people.  Therefore we want to be a house where God’s holy, powerful and passionate fire falls and ignites people’s lives.  We are not looking for lukewarm, moderate, careful Christians.  We want to be people abandoned to God and his loving purposes on planet earth.
